What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry which involves alignment or straightening of teeth as well as bite correction using either fixed or removable braces, to give our patients across Plymouth, straight, healthy teeth and a beautiful smile.

Who can have Orthodontic braces?

Braces are not just for kids! Adult Orthodontics in Plymouth now plays a big part in our treatment plans at Larkham House. We offer braces to those people who don’t qualify for NHS treatment, or who have relapsed after previous treatment and patients who want to improve on what they currently have.

Why would I have Orthodontic treatment?

There are a number of potential benefits including:

Straightening of the teeth
A better functioning bite
An enhanced dental and facial appearance
Improved self-confidence and self esteem
To facilitate other restorative work for example, optimising the space available for a dental implant
The placement or alignment of teeth prior to veneers or crowns, so that less enamel reduction is needed.

Are there alternatives to having braces?

There are alternatives to Orthodontic treatment for mild misalignment problems, such as tooth coloured build-ups, veneers or crowns which mask the irregularity. In most cases, this would involve some tooth preparation/enamel reduction. Comprehensive bite correction is generally not possible without Orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontic Referral

We are now offering an Advanced Dentistry Referral Service from dental colleagues or from patients themselves for complex orthodontic cases. At Larkham House we have the latest CBCT imaging scanner to enable advanced diagnosis for complex procedures and patient care. We aim to see patients within 7 days of receiving the referral. Dr Kate Rowe is our dentist with a special interest in orthodontics. She offers Invisalign which are clear discreet aligners & Six Month Smiles.

Very friendly staff! I suffer with anxiety and every time I have an appointment the dentist is very patient and goes through everything to make sure I am OK and not too nervous. The dentist nurses, particularly Rachel is amazing! Especially with my children when they come in makes me feel at ease!

From the offset call confirming my appointment this dental practice experience was five star compared to dentist based Midlands . Front desk staff / nurses excellent giving me the reassurance that I was booked in with a great dentist as I personally have a fear of the dentist being in my late 30s . After my review etc with the dentist it was forgone conclusion that a full on extraction was required the dentist himself was unbelievable reassuring excellent service total professionalism which I haven’t come across recently, great team whom care about the patient journey I most certainly didn’t just feel like a number under their care . Thank you to all staff at Larkham House Dental Practice.
