Composite bonding a modern way to enhance the appearance of the natural teeth by masking imperfections such as chipped or cracked teeth, uneven spacing, irregular sized or shaped teeth and minor misalignments.
A strong composite filling material is bonded to the teeth and polished . The material used is shade matched to your own natural teeth so it looks completely natural.
Your tooth will be prepared with an etchant gel and then a bonding agent will be applied. We will then apply tooth coloured composite material in small amounts to the tooth in different shades to build up the right colour and contour of the tooth. A UV light is then used to harden and set the material. The material is then polished and the shape is refined.
Tooth whitening gels do not have an impact on composite material, so no it will not whiten composite material. We advise patients who wish to whiten their teeth to do so first before composite boning so the composite can be matched with the desired shade.
Due to the material of the composite being softer than your natural teeth they need to be maintained well and are more prone to discolouration. We advise you to avoid anything that might stain them including drinking red wine, curries & smoking.
Typically, composite bonding cosmetically lasts around 5 years
