New patient Consultation

Our Goal

Our goal is to provide high quality and effective dental treatment in safe, regulated surroundings, making your visit as comfortable and effective as possible. We are very experienced in treating nervous dental patients so we will take good care of you and treat you as an individual, listening to your concerns and expectations at every step of the way.

We will carry out your oral health assessment

  • We will ask you first to complete a short Medical History Form giving information about yourself before you are taken through to meet your dentist.
  • Your dentist will start by asking you questions regarding your health and teeth
  • They will then examine your teeth, gums, face and neck.
  • You will have an extra-oral and intra-oral examination to check for any abnormalities which could lead to mouth cancer.
  • Your dentist will assess decay levels and problem areas, these will be recorded by their dental nurse for the dentist to discuss with you.
  • You may have X-rays taken to enable your dentist to see what is happening beneath the gums and under fillings etc.

At your new patient consultation we will discuss your wishes and requirements

At your new patient consultation, your dentist will gather information about you.  They then will discuss and explain treatment options and solutions to provide you with a bespoke treatment plan for your journey to a lifetime of healthy teeth, gums and mouth.

For simple routine checks, the hygienist or filings may be all that is needed. For more complex issues, further tests and investigations may be carried out before a treatment plan is agreed upon with you. Prior to any treatment commencing you will receive a written plan and cost estimates.

At Larkham House we treat all our patients with dignity, understanding and respect. We are equipped to deal with treatment ranging from general dentistry to specialised procedures. We also put in any consideration any pain or anxiety you may experience.

Why are regular dental check-ups important?

Your dentist is highly trained to recognise these signs and symptoms of Oral cancer, and with regular dental check-ups, the likelihood of catching oral cancer in time is dramatically higher.

There are still small areas in the mouth that are missed by regular brushing and flossing. When plaque builds up it becomes hard turning into tartar which is difficult to remove without a hygienist’s help and could lead to cavities.

Our dentists check for cavities or other problems. Tooth decay is easier to treat at its earliest stages.

We want to ensure that you have a healthy smile. Communication is key to a successful partnership, so speak with your dentist about your concerns, and we will come up with a plan to make you as comfortable as possible.

Poor dental hygiene can lead to other diseases and conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and endocarditis (the infection of the heart lining. ) Gum disease has also been linked to low birth weight and premature birth.

Children’s dentistry is so important. Children should start seeing a dentist as soon as they have their first tooth. We advise you to bring them into your appointments so that they can get used to the dental surgery.
