What is IV Sedation?

IV sedation, short for intravenous sedation, involves the administration of sedative medication directly into the bloodstream to help patients relax during dental procedures. Unlike general anesthesia, patients remain conscious but feel deeply relaxed and may not remember much of the procedure afterward. It is ideal for those who experience severe dental anxiety, have a low pain threshold, or require extensive or complex dental treatments.

Administered by a Consultant Anaesthetist , the sedation process is closely monitored to ensure both safety and comfort throughout the procedure. This level of expertise ensures that the sedation is tailored to the patient’s needs, minimizing discomfort while maintaining control over the level of consciousness.

What is IV Sedation Used For?

IV sedation is recommended for:

With IV sedation, patients can relax and receive the necessary care without the stress that often accompanies dental visits. This can make the experience smoother for both the patient and the dental team.
