Vivek Giddani attends a Sinus and Bone Grafting Course for Dental Implants

Dr Vivek Giddani now offers bone grafting and sinus augmentation at Larkham House

Dr Giddani has been very busy with training courses. A large part of being able to offer patients the highest quality of service is to stay up to date with information, skills and new technologies.

He attended the intensive 3-day course in bone grafting and sinus augmentation in London.

The London Centre of Implant and Aesthetic Dentistry developed the course along with Kings College London.

The fantastic edge this course offered against others was the hands-on aspect using cadavers. Meaning he was able to develop skills on the human structures. Over the 3 days he refreshed his knowledge of surgical and implant related anatomy along with the diagnosis and management of sinus diseases.

The hands-on session at Kings College included completing sinus augmentation, block grafting, particulate grafting, pin and screw fixation and the use of different biomaterials and the patient suitability of each. Learning these new skills has really boosted the treatment list available to our patients and external referrers.

The importance of Vivek attending the course was to be able to build relationships with patients by offering all implant treatment stages within the practice, rather than the need to refer them out. Overall, it was a great pleasure to attend and now be able to offer bone and sinus augmentation procedures at Larkham House.

SINUS LIFT

A sinus lift prepares the area for the insertion of dental implants. This is positive news for patients who have previously been told they are not a good candidate for dental implants due to lack of bone height.

A sinus lift is a bone grafting procedure that can create the preferred five-millimetre bone needed to place a dental implant. Achieving this by moving the sinus membrane upward and fitting additional bone between the upper jaw and maxillary sinuses

The sinus lift procedure provides more bone for patients whose teeth have been missing for long periods of time and the bone has resorbed as a result.

Dr Giddani’s  preferred choice of procedure is the crestal approach sinus lift. As this minimises the risk by providing a non-traumatic crestal approach to sinus elevation for patients. This is possible even if the sinus floor is flat, inclined or has a septum.

Patients planning to undergo the Sinus Lift procedure will undergo a clinical and radiographic assessment to study their jaw and sinus anatomy.  You may need a CT (CBCT) scan. This allows the measurement of the current bone, as well as to assess of the overall health of the sinus.

BONE AUGMENTATION

Candidates for bone augmentation, a process of rebuilding the bone, are patients with an insufficient natural, healthy bone to support dental implants.

The goal is to provide a solid structure where implants can be placed and secured in the alveolar bone structure. A bone graft most commonly completes the augmentation .

Patients planning to undergo bone augmentation procedures will undergo a clinical and radiographic assessment to study their jaw and bone.

Modern bone grafting is generally a painless, minimally invasive procedure completed in the practice. After the procedure has been completed the graft material is left for 3-6 months to heal . But this is depending on the extent of the graft and the condition of the existing bone.

During the treatment planning stage, we will discuss all options fully.
