Dental Veneers in Plymouth

What are veneers?
Veneers are hand crafted thin porcelain or composite “covers”, like a false fingernail, which are fixed to the whole surface of a front tooth to rectify many defects and irregularities. The primary purpose is to improve the aesthetic appearance of the teeth and smile. These can be placed over single or multiple teeth.
How can veneers help me?
Veneers are used to improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth. Veneers can also be used to lengthen teeth and improve your bite or fill gaps where orthodontics may not be suitable. A veneer can make a chipped tooth look whole again. The porcelain covers the whole of the front of the tooth, with a thicker section replacing the broken part.
We use veneers to correct the following concerns:
- Worn or chipped teeth
- Gummy smiles
- Dental fluorosis
- Closing gaps between teeth
- Crooked, uneven or overcrowded teeth
- Discoloured teeth
- Replacement veneers
A precise shade of porcelain is chosen to give the correct colour to improve a single discoloured tooth or to lighten your front teeth.

What are the advantages of veneers?
Veneers make teeth look natural and healthy. Because they are very thin and are held in place by a special, strong adhesive, very little preparation of the tooth is needed. Some types of veneers don’t need any preparation at all.
How long with my veneer last?
With proper care at home and regular visit to your hygienist and dentist veneers should last for many years, however they can still chip or break, just like your own teeth. Small chips can be repaired, or a new veneer fitted if necessary.

Are there alternatives to veneers?
There are alternatives to having veneers, but it does depend of the concern, a natural-coloured filling material can be used for minor repairs to front teeth. This is excellent when the tooth can support a filling, but may not work so well for broken tooth corners as there will always be a join between the tooth and the filling material.
Crowns are an alternative for teeth which need to be strengthened – either because they have broken, have been weakened by a very large filling, or have had root canal treatment.
