Orthodontics, Teeth Straightening in Plymouth

What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry which involves alignment or straightening of teeth as well as bite correction using either fixed or removable braces, to give our patients across Plymouth, straight, healthy teeth and a beautiful smile.
Who can have Orthodontic braces?
Braces are not just for kids! Adult Orthodontics in Plymouth now plays a big part in our treatment plans at Larkham House. We offer braces to those people who don’t qualify for NHS treatment, or who have relapsed after previous treatment and patients who want to improve on what they currently have.
Orthodontic Referral
We are now offering an Advanced Dentistry Referral Service from dental colleagues or from patients themselves for complex orthodontic cases. We have the latest CBCT imaging scanner to enable advanced diagnosis for complex procedures and patient care. We aim to see patients within 7 days of receiving the referral. Please contact us for further details.

Why would I have Orthodontic treatment?
There are a number of potential benefits including:
- Straightening of the teeth
- A better functioning bite
- An enhanced dental and facial appearance
- Improved self-confidence and self esteem
- To facilitate other restorative work for example, optimising the space available for a dental implant
- The placement or alignment of teeth prior to veneers or crowns, so that less enamel reduction is needed.
Are there alternatives to having braces?
There are alternatives to Orthodontic treatment for mild misalignment problems, such as tooth coloured build-ups, veneers or crowns which mask the irregularity. In most cases, this would involve some tooth preparation/enamel reduction. Comprehensive bite correction is generally not possible without Orthodontic treatment.

What type of Orthodontic braces do you use?
At Larkham House Dental Practice we use the Six Months Smiles system with clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires which are barely visible. There is also the option of the Damon System or Damon Clear fixed appliances which are designed to be discreet, and easy to keep clean. Damon braces make dental hygiene easy during treatment. Plus the Damon System is available in clear brackets for those image conscious patients. The choice will be dependent on your requirements and the severity of your orthodontic problem.
How much to braces cost?
The cost of having braces will depend on the severity of your Orthodontic problem and the type of Orthodontic appliance used. An estimate of your treatment will be provided at your first visit. Payment may be paid in full at the beginning of treatment or paid in instalments throughout the duration of the treatment or over 12 months with our 0% finance.
